hey there-
any of you lovelies know anything about injuns (no, not indians, rather, engines)? we have been hard at work on making a fantabulous art car for all BRC denizens to enjoy, with all systems go for playa-bound departure this weekend. wooohoooo!
however, all systems go might be a bit of an overstatement as Mr. Plush (lincoln town car) has sprung a leak, so to speak, and is currently oozing gas. (that would probably qualify as moop, yes?)
i'm hoping to find someone who knows about the workings of a car and could come check out our boy's engine (and other mechanical type parts) in downtown LA this week. of course, just like almost every other big BM project, we are currently way over budget so i'm hoping someone can take pity on us and offer up their services for free or on the cheap.
lemme know.
did i say pretty please with sugar on top?

Re: looking for an la mechanic to check our engine for playa-readiness
Tue, August 21, 2007 - 7:52 PMWhat a time to have a gas leak.
In reality, it is better this happened now and not enroute burning up your car and everything with it. Please be careful and be sure you have no leaks before you drive or start the car again.
I hope you find some help Courtney as the burn is coming fast. Can't assist from here as we are in AZ and leaving for BRC soon.
Best of luck... dd -

Wed, August 22, 2007 - 8:59 AMthanks for the kind words, dd!
we found someone to plug our leak, thank goodness.
now, does anyone have any words of advice as to what "spare parts" are good to have on hand on the playa for the car. please excuse my ignorance as i clearly have no idea about cars. basically, i'm trying to think about things that are analogous to spare inner tubes for your bike. everyone knows those often fare poorly on the playa so a well-prepared (and self-reliant) burner will have an extra set on hand.
thoughts? -

Re: looking for an la mechanic to check our engine for playa-readiness
Wed, August 22, 2007 - 11:46 AMI like to bring a spare air filter, all belts, radiator hoses, and a full size spare tire. Thankfully, I've never actually needed to use any of these things but they're cheap and could leave you stranded if they go out. Maybe an alternator if you're depending on yours for a lot of power.
Everything else would be specific to the weak points on your car. Maybe some extra fuel hose since you've already had a problem with that once. -
